Patrolmay Ray succumbed to gunshot wounds received one month earlier while responding to a burglary call.

A store owner had arrived to work and discovered that a burglary had taken place and called police. The suspect, however, was still inside the store and robbed the owner after he made the call.

Patrolman Ray responded to the store to make a burglary report, but was unaware of the robbery that was currently taking place.

Patrolman Ray entered the store and the suspect attempted to flee. The suspect shot Patrolman Ray twice as he fled.

Patrolman Ray was survived by his daughter and son.
