Officer Peter Grignon was shot and killed after responding to a hit
& run call in the 2600 block of Accasia Drive.
The incident occured at approximate 6:30 am when Officer Grignon
approached 2 suspects after finding the suspect vehicle approximately 2 blocks
from scene of the call.
A witness at the scene stated she heard the officer shout "Dont
Shoot" and then heard 3 shots.
The suspect, Travis Ballard, was a 17 year old juvenile with an extensive
history of criminal activity and mental problems.
Officer Grignon was rushed to University Hospital with 2 gunshot
wounds to the face and neck area. Surgeons worked hard to save the officer, but
he succumbed to his wounds at approximately 9:30 am.
Officer Grignon was 27 years old and recently married. He had been
with the Louisville Metro Police Department for only 2 years.
